Throw
pillows are great finishers to an interior decorating project. If
you’re a bit concerned on how to pick the right ones, don’t fret:
it isn’t rocket science. Here are a few handy tips:
Consider
size– Throw
pillows come in a range of sizes, but the most popular choices are
about 18 inches as they go perfectly with conventional-sized sofas.
If you have a bigger sofa, then you should likewise opt for bigger
throw pillows (24 inches) to create a relaxed, lounge-like feel. At
the end of the day, it’s all about mixing and matching—surely a
24-inch throw pillow (more so three or more of them) wouldn’t work
well with a small sofa, would it?
Shape–
Throw
pillows come in four basic shapes: bolsters, squares, rectangles, and
rounds. In order to judge which shape would work well on an area, you
should determine how the pillow will be used. If you’re looking to
provide ample body support while relaxing, opt for squares,
obviously. Your furniture’s aesthetics also play a part. For
instance, a sofa with a lot of sharp edges can be softened a bit with
round pillows, and vice versa.
Design–
The
design aspect of the throw pillows would rely heavily on your
preferences and needs. For example, you could use neutral-colored
prints if you’re looking to play it safe. Or, you could play around
with contrasting textures to complement your furniture. It’s your
call.
